CHAIR

Antonello ASTARITA

Dr. Antonello Astarita is Assistant Professor at the University of Naples “Federico II”. He achieved the Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2008 and the Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering in 2013, both at the University of Naples. He was visiting scientist at the University of Manchester and also worked as external consultant for several companies. His research activities are in the field of material science, and in particular on the innovative processes to produce titanium and aluminium parts. He focused his studies on the solid joining of metals for aeronautical applications and on the precision forming of titanium parts. In the last years he moved his research interests on additive manufacturing techniques, such as electron beam melting, selective laser melting and cold dynamic spray deposition. He is co-author of more than 50 journal papers on these topics.

He received the “ASM-IMM visiting lectureship award” in 2016 from ASM International and the “ESAFORM Scientific Prize” in 2018 from the European Scientific Association for Forming Materials. Dr. Astarita is member of the editorial board of “Surface Engineering” and “Journal of Materials Engineering and Performances”, he was also in the scientific committee of several international conferences. He teach “Manufacturing Processes” at the University of Naples and “Advanced Materials and Manufacturing” at the University of Salerno. He is also member of ASM International, ESAFORM and the Italian Association for Manufacturing (AITEM).

CO-CHAIRS

Pierpaolo CARLONE

Pierpaolo Carlone is Associate Professor in Manufacturing Technologies and Systems at the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Salerno since 2018. Formerly (since 2007), he was Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the same University. He received his Master Degree (summa cum laude) in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Salerno in 2003 (thesis title: Mechanical characterization of sandwich structures (composite materials-honeycomb) for aerospace applications) and his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the same University in 2007 (thesis title: Analysis, Optimization, and Development of the Pultrusion Manufacturing Process by Computational Modelling and Methods). In 2006 he performed research activities as visiting scholar at the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) of the Ohio State University (OSU), Columbus, Ohio, USA. He is member of the Doctoral Council of Mechanical Engineering since 2007 and of the Doctoral Council of Industrial Engineering since 2011. He is currently the head of the Metrology Laboratory and of the Composites Laboratory. He is participant/principal investigator in national and international research projects as well as company funded research projects.
He is member of the Italian Association of Mechanical Technology (AITeM) and of the European Scientific Association for Material Forming (ESAFORM) since 2004. In 2014 he has been elected in the Board of Directors of the ESAFORM. He is member of the ASM – International, since 2016.
His research interests are mainly focused on advanced and light-weight materials processing, in particular composites manufacturing and solid state similar and dissimilar metal welding. He is author/co-author of about 100 papers published in high reputation scientific journals and proceedings of international conferences and one scientific book plus some book chapters.

Antonino SQUILLACE

Antonino Squillace is Full Professor in Manufacturing Technologies and Systems at the Department of Chemical, Materials and Industrial Production Engineering of the University of Naples Federico II since 2017. Formerly (since 2011), he was Associate Professor at the same department. He received his Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Naples Federico II in 1998 and his PhD in Technologies and Production Systems from the same University in 2001.
He is currently member of the Executive Committee of the Italian Association of Manufacturing Technologies (AITeM), member of the Doctoral Council of Technology, Innovation and Management and coordinator of the Research Committee of the Department of Chemical, Materials and Industrial Production Engineering of the University of Naples Federico II and member of the Teaching Committee at the same department. He is participant/principal investigator in several national and international research projects as well as company funded research projects.
His research activities are mainly focused on advanced and light-weight materials processing, in particular hot precision forming and solid state similar and dissimilar metal welding. He is author/co-author of more than 130 papers published in high reputation scientific journals and proceedings of international conferences, scientific books plus some book chapters. His papers received more than 1800 citations resulting in a H-index of 23 (Scopus® source).

T.S. SUDARSHAN

Dr. T.S. Sudarshan is the Founder of the Surface Modification Technologies series of conferences and is currently the President and CEO of Materials Modification, Inc. He has a PhD from Virginia Tech and has been responsible for driving the company’s technological leadership in the development of next generation materials, processes and techniques for the past 32 years. He has been a passionate entrepreneur and provided employment to over 400 individuals, provided the first jobs for over 180 students, served on over 10 thesis committees for M,S. and Ph.D’s. Dr Sudarshan has served on the National Materials Advisory Board, Ohio Third Frontier Committees, ASM International Board, Committees for the Army, NSF, NIH and DoE. He has over 180 papers, editor of two journals – Materials and Manufacturing Processes and Surface Engineering, coeditor of 34 books, holder of 30 patents, winner of two R and D 100 awards, Fellow of ASM International, Fellow of IFHTSE, Fellow of IMMM, UK, and Distinguished Alumni of IITM. He has been responsible for heading the development of 18 products and has worked in difficult to solve problems in the area of nanotechnology and surface engineering. He has also been on the Advisory Board of ATI, South Carolina and several other companies as a consultant.

COORDINATOR

Fabrizio CAPECE MINUTOLO

Fabrizio Capece Minutolo is professor of Manufacturing Technology and Systems since 1997 in the University of Naples Federico II.
He held many institutional positions during his activity:
-Component of many committees: for the University of Naples Federico II, for the National Research Council, for the Ministry of Education, University and Research.
-Scientific responsible for many research contracts.
-President of the Organizing Committee of the 10th AITeM Conference, Naples 2010 and for the 3rd National Conference of Italian Mechanics Coordination, Naples 2014, as well as member of the Organizing Committees of several international scientific conferences.
His research activity is focused mainly on:
-Non conventional manufacturing by means of laser beam
-Manufacturing of metals by means of plastic deformation
-Optimization of mechanical manufacturing.

He authored about 120 scientific publications.
